The Office of the Provost is pleased to launch a pilot for a new internal grant program for full-time, pre-tenured faculty in their first five years at Boston College. The Manuscript Mini-Conference is designed to fund the cost of a meeting focused on the discussion of a book manuscript. These conferences offer an opportunity for authors to receive feedback from senior colleagues in a time-frame useful for revision. Faculty at several peer institutions have benefitted from similar support for early-career manuscript conferences as first-time authors have found such manuscript conferences a wonderful way to receive revision suggestions from experts in their fields while there is still time to revise.
Conferences will be one day in length and must be held at Boston College. Applicants may invite outside discussants in their field to provide written feedback on the manuscript and to facilitate discussion on specific chapters. Applicants may also invite two to three internal colleagues and, ideally, a graduate student from AV研究所 as well. Recipients of such award should have the endorsement of their department chairs and a senior faculty mentor assigned to them by the department chair.听 The pre-tenured faculty member will be eligible to apply for support for one Manuscript Mini-Conference during their first five years at Boston College. Authors who have benefitted from such meetings in the past recommend planning the conference with lead time of between three and six months. The Conference should optimally take place while a manuscript is being reviewed by a publisher and guest reviewers are to receive a copy of the manuscript during this time.
How To Apply
Applications will be accepted throughout the academic year. To complete your application, email a copy of your manuscript to internalgrants@bc.edu.听 听
